I was born and raised on a farm in rural Nebraska, went to a country school and graduated from a small town high school. I graduated from Western Reserve University in 1964 and went to work for McGraw-Hill Book Company as a representative promoting textbooks and seeking manuscripts on college campuses. I took several years away from this ( 1967-1971 ) to teach English and earn a PhD in Literature from Duke. Then I returned to McGraw-Hill, becoming a Sponsoring Editor in English and Social Sciences.

In 1977 I answered a call to the ministry by going to Candler, a United Methodist Seminary connected to Emory University in Atlanta, GA. During this time I completed a year of Clinical Pastoral Education at Grady Hospital. Upon graduating from Candler in 1981, I returned to Nebraska where I was appointed to a parish in North Omaha, chiefly to Trinity U.M.C. The next year I was appointed to Pleasanton/Ravenna Zion, a two point charge near Kearney. While there I earned an M.S.Ed degree in Counseling, as did Mary Ann, at U.Nebr. at Kearney. In 1985 I was appointed to Blue Hill & Bladen, a 2 point charge near Hastings, NE. I served there for 7 years. I have been on numerous VIM teams, mostly building “casitas’ (12’ by 16’ homes) in the Nuevo Progresso & Rio Bravo communities in Mexico. I was also with one VIM team in Haiti and another at a tribal college (Little Priest) in Nebraska.

In July 1993 I was appointed to the Edmeston U.M.C. in the Wyoming Conference where I served 4 years. At that time I was also Chaplain at Pathfinder Village serving residents with Down Syndrome. In 1997 I was appointed to Franklin and Treadwell UMCs, also in the Oneonta District, where I served 8 years. Following official retirement in 2005, I felt a continued call to ministry and served Harpursville-Ouaquaga, Smithville Center, and other small churches until 2011. For the last 2½ years Mary Ann and I have been appointed to the New Berlin United Methodist Church which is situated between Oneonta and Norwich NY.

We are having a great time there.
